Team of reporters at E1T1Radio tours the collapsing area Paloma drainage system to ascertain up to speed of situation. The visit is occasioned by earlier of the MCE for Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Hajia Salma Sani M.Kuta, together with MCE for Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly Hon. Aminu Mohammed Zakari , Executives from the Ministry of Zongo and Inner City Development, World Bank representatives and NADMO inspected the drainage from Kawokudi through Nima, Panama to Paloma.
This was done together with the Chiefs and stakeholders in the community to assess the level of work to be done and the necessary intervention strategies to be put in place towards its completion.
In the interim, Individuals are entreated to adhere to sanitation rules and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse. It is a practice that will cause more harm especially when there are heavy rains which will consequently lead to flooding and its attendant problems.
Individuals who are found engaging in such practices will be dealt with accordingly. The decongestion exercise is also underway to ensure that the communities become clean and safe.
The team spoke with some residents of the affected area and expressed sorry and disappointment at the government unwillingness to repair the affected area. ‘’ we have seen several of the government people who came here to look at the gutter and they have promise to repair it but over years nothing has been done about it and the gutter is still open up larger, anytime it rains we pray to God to save our buildings. We are begging the government to come and repair it for us. We are worried about De Youngsters school children as well.’’
